Hoobler was depicted in the HBO mini-series, "Band of Brothers", as being killed in action from his own bullet in the battle of the bulge in a non-combat situation. After killing a German soldier who was on patrol, Hoobler obtained a Luger pistol. He accidentally shot himself in the thigh, puncturing a main bloodline while the medic, Eugene Roe, was wandering around the forest looking for dead American soldiers. He bled to death before Roe returned.
Contrary to what is portrayed in the mini-series, "Band of Brothers", Roe was present at the time of Hoobler's injury, even attempting to save his life. Though, just like the mini-series, Hoobler died.
It is stated in Parachute Infantry by David Kenyon Webster that Webster thought Hoobler enjoyed war.
