Battle Of Poitiers
The Battle of Poitiers was fought on the 19 September 1356 between the French and an English force, commanded by Edward-the Black Prince, which had been carrying out a raid in central France. The English were victorious, capturing the French king, John II, thereby greatly strengthening their negotiating position at the Treaty of Bretigny (1360).
King John’s ransom being was agreed at three million crowns (£500,000)
